If you do not get enough vitamin C, you will know it.  A lack of vitamin C in the body leads to splitting hair, gingivitis, bleeding gums, rough and scaly skin, bruising, painful joints, nosebleeds, anemia, a tendency to get sick, and possible weight gain.  A general feeling of something just being off is also common with a vitamin C problem.  In extreme cases, a person may develop scurvy as a result of a huge lack of vitamin C in the body.  Because humans cannot create or store vitamin C, it is important that you get enough vitamin C in you diet to stay healthy.

A Vitamin C Healthy Diet


The most obvious source of vitamin C is fruits and vegetables.  They all contain some amount of vitamin C, but the best sources are green peppers, any citrus fruit, strawberries, tomatoes, broccoli, leafy greens, white potatoes, and cantaloupe.  Other fruits and vegetables also contain vitamin C, just not in as large of a concentration.  If you do not get enough vitamin C through fruits and vegetables, as well as juices, it is important to take a vitamin C supplement or a multivitamin that contains enough vitamin C to keep you as healthy as possible.
